1741-1807,Swiss neoclassical painter and graphic artist. From her youth she was known for her artistic, musical, and linguistic abilities. She went to England, where she enjoyed success as a fashionable portrait painter and decorator. A protegee of Sir Joshua Reynolds, Kauffman was one of the original members of the Royal Academy. She often decorated houses designed by the Adam brothers. After her marriage in 1781 to the Venetian painter Antonio Zucchi, she lived in Italy, where she flourished in artistic and literary circles. Reynolds, Winckelmann, Goethe, and Garrick commissioned her to paint their portraits. Representative works include Religion (National Gall., London); Self-Portrait (Staatliche Museen, Berlin); and the etchings of L'Allegra and La Pensierosa. född 9 november 1844 i Göteborg, död 1920, målare, son till arkitekten Victor von Gegerfelt. von Gegerfelt studerade 1861-63 vid konstakademien i Köpenhamn, 1864-67 vid akademien i Stockholm och 1867-72 i D??sseldorf, varefter han överflyttade till Paris. Där arbetade han sig till en helt ny teknik och blev jämte Alfred Wahlberg den förste svenske representanten för det moderna stämningslandskapet. Han gjorde studieresor till Frankrikes nordkust, till hemlandet och till Italien, målade skymning över Venedigs kajer, månsken över lagunerna, kritklippor vid Engelska kanalen i gråstämning, svenska sommarnätter, allt med elegant pensel, smekande färg och livligt föredrag. Gegerfelt är representerad på Nationalmuseum av Stormen (akvarell, motiv från Dalarna, inköpt 1886) och Strand på Hallands Väderö (i olja, 1893) samt på Göteborgs konstmuseum av Strandgata i Venezia (1884), oljemålningen Vinterafton på Hallands Väderö (1893) samt akvarellen Fjällbacka.
Jacob Huysmans
1633-1696 Flemish Jacob Huysmans Gallery Jacob Huysmans (c.1633?C1696), was a Flemish portrait painter. He moved to England during the reign of Charles II where he became one of the fashionable painters of the court. His chief portraits are those of Izaak Walton and Catherine of Braganza, Charles II's wife (both displayed on the National Gallery, London). He was a pupil of Gilles Backereel and Frans Wouters and came over to England from - presumably - Antwerp. His first works were pastiches of work from Anthony van Dyck. As a Roman Catholic he was favoured by Catharine of Braganza. When Samuel Pepys visited his workshop in Westminster on 26 August 1664, he described him as a 'picture-drawer ... which is said to exceed Lilly (Lely). Huysmans's most important portrait of Catharine of Braganza, Queen Catharine as a Shepherdess (c. 1664; Brit. Royal Col.), was one of the pictures Pepys saw on that occasion. Painting his subjects as sheperdesses with clothing embellished with embroidery and jewellery were typical of his style.
